The fourth lighthouse on the Eddystone Rocks, designed by James Douglass. The first lighthouse here was built in 1698 by Henry Winstanley and destroyed in the Great Storm of 1703 with the inventor inside. The current tower has withstood over 140 years of Atlantic storms.
