About Alexandria Lighthouse (Pharos)
One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Built by Ptolemy I and completed under Ptolemy II. Stood for over 1,500 years before being destroyed by earthquakes. The word pharaoh derives from the name of this lighthouse. Its ruins were discovered underwater in 1994.
